A little story from our corner of downtown Elkin, North Carolina.

It started with a question

“What smells so good in here?”

We weren't expecting that to become one of the questions we heard most often at SuperheroWatches.com. People came in for watches, Pokémon cards, something for their favorite superhero, or simply to look around. They'd take a few steps inside, get comfortable, and then ask about the scent.

We loved that. Not because we had some grand plan to get into candles, but because it meant people noticed how our little store felt.

We've always wanted SuperheroWatches.com to be more than shelves and merchandise. It's a place to bring someone you love, talk about the characters you grew up with, and maybe leave with a story you didn't have when you walked in. The fragrance had quietly become part of that welcome.

What if you could bring that feeling home?

At some point, that question turned into another one: what if we could put a little of our store in a candle?

Not a generic souvenir. Not something with a superhero label slapped onto it. Something that actually connected to the experience of being here.

That's where our friend Beth of B's Creations Soap Co. in Yadkinville, North Carolina, came into the story. We brought the idea and the feeling we were trying to capture. Beth brought her experience as a small-batch maker and the ability to help us turn that idea into something real.

There was something especially right about doing this with a maker close to home. SuperheroWatches.com is in Elkin. Beth is in Yadkinville. Different towns, different businesses, but a shared appreciation for putting care into what you make and how people experience it.

Finding the name

We kept coming back to the idea of a hideout.

Every hero needs one, right? Somewhere to regroup after a difficult day. Somewhere familiar and comfortable. For some of us, that's a reading chair or a desk covered in collectibles. For someone else, it's a quiet room, a favorite blanket, and a little time to themselves.

And so we named the fragrance Hero's Hideout—the signature scent of SuperheroWatches.com.

By early August 2026, we were working through what that name and our collaboration with Beth would look like. We explored the labels, the story behind the scent, and how to make the finished pieces feel like they belonged to both businesses. On August 9, the idea finally felt like it had a name and an identity of its own. The details of production were still ahead, but Hero's Hideout had begun.

One fragrance, a lot of memories

The fragrance we chose carries warm notes of cedarwood, lavender, musk, mahogany, and oak. We wanted it to be welcoming rather than showy—something that fits a shop where a child can spot their favorite character and a grown-up can discover an old memory.

Our plans grew to include a traditional cotton-wick candle, a wooden-wick version, and a room and linen spray. Different ways of bringing the same little piece of the store into someone's everyday life.

Of course, none of this started with a product forecast or a marketing calendar. It started with people coming through the door and telling us they liked how it smelled.

The people behind the products matter

It's easy to look at a candle on a shelf and see only a candle. We see a local maker, conversations about a design, ideas passed back and forth, and customers whose small comments inspired the whole thing.

That's why we wanted to tell Beth's part of this story. Collaborations between small businesses don't need to be grand or complicated to mean something. Sometimes they begin because one person has an idea and another person says, in effect, we can make that happen.
